1. Theory Assessment

This qualification is competence-based, candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge, and understanding against the standards set in the qualification. The qualification must be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor.

Format: Hands-on demonstration and scenario-based exercises.

Candidates who achieve the requirements for qualifications will be awarded:

  • A certificate listing all units achieved, and
  • A certificate giving the full qualification title.

Course Overview:

The ProQual Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety is designed for individuals working as health and safety practitioners who hold responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of a team or organisation.
This qualification is suitable for candidates from any sector and provides the competence, knowledge, and understanding required to carry out day-to-day health and safety duties effectively.
Learners will develop skills in conducting risk assessments, monitoring safety procedures, investigating incidents, promoting a positive safety culture, and ensuring compliance with workplace and legislative requirements.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the qualification, learners will be able to:

  • Investigate and evaluate health and safety incidents and complaints.
  • Ensure actions are taken to reduce risks to health and safety in the workplace.
  • Develop, monitor, and review procedures to safely control work operations.
  • Promote and maintain a positive health and safety culture in the workplace.
  • Conduct comprehensive health and safety risk assessments.
  • Apply legislative requirements and workplace procedures to protect the environment.
  • Review workplace health and safety procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Supervise and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of learners in the workplace (optional).

Entry Requirements: There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. Centres should carry out an initial assessment of candidate skills and knowledge to identify any gaps and help plan the assessment.
